Our End-of-Life Doulas

Sally Gabriel

  • Grief education, advance care planning, emotional support, legacies and life reviews, family support, bedside companionship, vigils, medical-aid-in-dying (MAiD), voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED), dementia, meditation

  • Sally's passion for supporting others at life's end stems from personal experience. Witnessing the loss of both parents in 2017 ignited a desire to ensure others have a more informed and supported journey.

These experiences, coupled with helping a dear friend navigate a peaceful passing, led Sally to become a certified End-of-Life Doula through Doulagivers and INELDA. She furthered her training by volunteering with Tidewell/Empath Hospice in Sarasota.

Sally's expertise extends beyond the dying process. She is also a Certified Grief Educator, trained by David Kessler, and offers individual and group support for those facing loss.

Sally believes in open communication and empowers individuals and families to plan for a meaningful end-of-life experience. She guides you through advance care planning and ensures your end-of-life care wishes are understood and honored.

In addition to planning, Sally helps create:

    • A sense of peace and acceptance throughout the process

    • A positive and supported death journey

    • A sacred space for letting go

Sally's calming presence and expertise can transform the dying process from something to fear into a peaceful natural transition.

A native New Yorker who has called Sarasota home for 26 years, Sally brings her extensive experience and compassion to the community.

Lauren Hearn

  • Advance care planning, attend doctor appointments, grief support, legacy work, pediatrics, sound healing, support circles

  • Lauren has spent over a decade in the healthcare industry as an ICU nurse and currently as a nurse anesthetist.  She developed a profound realization of the lack of support in place for those who are grieving & those who are ill or dying. This ignited a passionate mission within her to blossom: to ensure that every human facing an illness, death, or grief will receive the support, care, & compassion they deserve.

Lauren became an End-of-Life Doula & End-of-Life Coach through the Conscious Dying Institute (CDI), to educate & empower individuals & families to create meaningful, peaceful, and deeply personal end- of- life experiences. Through the CDI she also received a certificate for end of life support in pediatrics.

As a Grief Companion, Lauren trained under Frances Weller to study grief and how it deeply impacts each and every one of us. Grief reminds us how deeply we love.

Originally from Missouri, Lauren loves her family & friends, yoga, nature, dogs & animals, & all things mind, body, soul.

Erin Joy

  • Aromatherapy, Reiki, guided meditation, Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, Companion Animal Doula, designer dying, life review, vigils

  • Erin Joy began her journey as an End-of-Life Doula in Colorado at age seven, caring for small creatures she and her brothers rescued. She believed then, as she does now, that no being should endure fear or suffering alone. Today, Erin is a Certified End-Of-Life Specialist through LifePath Learners with a background in social sciences and addiction recovery. She speaks the language of the heart, offering compassionate care and support before, during, and after death.

After being immersed in the Virgin Islands culture for 9 years on St. John, her husband’s near death experience in 2021, personal losses, and caretaking experience, Erin adopted an inspiring new outlook on death and dying. She strives to deliver clients a personalized “designer dying” experience, prompting open dialogues about wishes, fears, and desires with loved ones, cultivating an atmosphere of harmony and purpose for the golden time that remains.

Sometimes a calming presence is all that is needed. Erin meets the patient where they are, chaperoning the dying and their loved ones with dignity and grace. She aims to empower others to embrace this stage of life with purpose and peace. Erin creates meaningful moments of connection, offering steady support throughout the journey, ensuring her patients, and those closest to them, will never feel alone.
